Obituary

Mary A. (Paxton) Elia , 68, of Johnstown, PA; formerly of Perkasie, PA went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 9, 2024 at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

Mary was the loving wife of the late Russell "Pete" C. Elia, Sr. for 38 years. She was born in Somerset, PA to the late Donald I. Paxton, Sr. and the late Amelia Cora (Gaunt) Paxton.

Mary graduated from Portage Area High School, class of 1973. She later graduated from the LPN program at Upper Bucks County Technical School.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for Neshaminy Manor Nursing Home (now known as Bucks County Neshaminy Manor) in Warrington, PA. She then worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the former North Penn Convalescent Center (later known as Beverly Healthcare) in Lansdale, PA and lastly for the Lutheran Community at Telford. In her spare time, Mary helped out the Pennridge Little League and Pennridge Green Jackets where she ran the snack stand at both of the fields.

She was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church in Johnstown, PA.

Mary enjoyed crocheting, arts and crafts, ceramics, crossword puzzles, Solitaire, and board games. She was an avid reader and loved reading Romance novels. She enjoyed listening to country music and watching her favorite TV shows – NCIS, Law & Order, & Walker Texas Ranger. She loved her dogs, butterflies and the color purple.

Mary was a hardworking, selfless, family orientated, career driven woman who was always willing to help someone in need and wore her heart on her sleeve.

She is survived by her three sons, Russell C. Elia, Jr. & wife, Shannon of Coopersburg, PA, James A. Elia of Johnstown, PA, Dominick J. Elia of Coopersburg, PA; her daughter, Wendy Maybin of Tuscon, AZ; her granddaughter, Ryley P. Elia of Sellersville, PA; her two grandsons, Russell C. Elia, III of Coopersburg, PA, Caden Elia of Johnstown, PA; her two brothers, Donald Irvin Paxton, Jr. of Johnstown, PA, Daniel William Paxton & wife, Judy of Sellersville, PA; and her sister, Linda Catherine Costlow of Johnstown, PA.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, PA 18964 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, followed by Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am.

Inurnment will take place at Sellersville Cemetery.
