Mary M.
Walbrandt
Oct 18, 1936 — Mar 9, 2026
Mary (McCaffrey) Walbrandt , 89, of Skippack, PA; formerly of San Dimas, CA and Doylestown, PA passed away on March 9, 2026, at St. Luke's Grand View Hospital in Sellersville.
Mary was born on October 18, 1936 in Evanston, IL to the late Carlton McCaffrey and the late Helen (McGowan) McCaffrey, and grew up in Scarsdale, NY. She graduated from a private girl's school, Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA in 1954 and the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1958.
On September 26, 1959, she married James H. Walbrandt of Hudson, WI whom she met while attending college. They were married for 52 years at his passing in 2011.
Mary and Jim first lived in Tarrytown, NY where they were blessed with 2 sons, William James and David Carlton. They moved to Doylestown, PA in 1974, where Mary worked at the Doylestown Racquet Club and volunteered at Doylestown Hospital. With brief moves to Wilmington, DE and Rochester, MI they settled in San Dimas, CA in 1985 where Mary worked at The Claremont Club. In 2009, due to Jim's serious medical issues, they moved back east to Telford, PA to be near their son's families.
In 2017, Mary returned to volunteering at Doylestown Hospital. As a former heart surgical patient, she joined other "Heart to Heart" volunteers who visited the current heart patients and their families, giving encouragement and answering any questions they may have about the recovery process. In addition, she also worked in the dog therapy program, escorting "Maggie" a beautiful, gentle goldendoodle, bringing some joy and much needed diversion to patients. And for a year she volunteered in Children's Village, the hospital's Day Care Center.
Mary was an ardent lover of sports and a true "Packer Backer". She was a longtime tennis player and she took up Pickleball later in life and enjoyed years of playing the sport and the camaraderie of players from Pennsylvania to Florida.
Mary was an independent, athletic, fun-loving, caring woman.
Mary is survived by her son, David Walbrandt and wife, Allison (Hughes) of Skippack, PA; her daughter-in-law, Terrie Depolo of Bowling Green, MO, her five grandchildren: Lindsay (Walbrandt) Caprio of Lock Haven, PA, Alexander Walbrandt of Sellersville, PA, Peter Walbrandt of Hamburg, NY, Hollie Walbrandt of Philadelphia, PA, Megan Walbrandt of Skippack, PA, and her six great-grandchildren: Hadley and Delaney Caprio and Emma, Collin, Eleanor and Lillian Walbrandt.
