Obituary

Matthew Charles "Chuck" Ryan , 89, of Telford, formerly of Lansdale, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at his residence in Telford.

Chuck was the loving husband of Gretchen Ryan for 61 years. He was born in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Mathew Ryan and Irene Radler.

A graduate of Clifford J. Scott High School class of 1949, Chuck continued his education at the Newark College of Engineering, Newark, NJ, until 1951. He spent the next four years in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Purdue University in the class of 1959 in West Lafayette, IN, with a degree in electrical engineering.

Throughout his working lifetime Chuck was employed as an Electrical Engineer for the following companies, GE of Pittsfield, MA, Philco-Ford, Lansdale, PA, and Fischer & Porter, Warminster, PA. He has two patents from inventive engineering to measure the flow of liquids through pipes.

Chuck was a faithful follower of Jesus and an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harleysville, PA.

Chuck was a craftsman, inventor and all-around repairman! He enjoyed woodworking, making beautiful wooden bowls. He relished playing brain games and trivia as well as bocce ball. Chuck was an avid reader, history buff and a lifelong learner. In his younger days, Chuck loved to sing, play tennis, go sailing & fishing at the beach, ride bikes and play bridge with friends. Camping with family, visiting the national parks, and doing Elderhostels around the USA or abroad were favorite activities. Most of all, he was clever in his humor and made everyone he was with laugh and smile. Chuck was a sweet, gentle man.

In addition to his wife Gretchen, he is survived by his two daughters, Katie Blincoe and son in law, John Blincoe of Seattle, WA, and Sarah Benner and son in law, Rev. Cedric Benner of Catonsville, MD; his son, Robert Ryan, PHD, MBA and daughter in law, Dr. Qin Ryan of Silver Spring, MD; his four grandchildren, Bria, Devin and Madison Benner, and Thomas Ryan.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Gretchen welcomes personal visits from friends at her home.
