Mildred "Millie" M. (Moyer) Knechel , 96, of Boyertown, PA; formerly of Alburtis, PA entered into rest on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Chestnut Knoll.
She was the loving wife of Ernest A. Knechel for 76 years. Mildred was born in Perkasie, PA to the late A. Byron Moyer and the late Edna M. (Trauger) Moyer.
She worked as a caretaker for the Shelly family in Center Valley, PA. Mildred then worked as a seamstress for the former Sackman's in Telford, PA. She was a devoted farmer's wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mildred kept meticulous recordkeeping books for her husband's paint business, Knechel Paint & Paper Hanging, in Alburtis, PA. She worked as a babysitter for many local families in the Huffs Church area. Mildred then worked as a computer reading specialist for the Gateway Christian School in Fredericksville, PA.
She was a member of Fredericksville Mennonite Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent, a Bible school coordinator, a leader of the Girls Club, a youth group leader, and sat on the church board. Mildred volunteered at many of the Liberty Thrift stores. She later was a member of the Perkiomenville Mennonite Church.
Mildred made many quilts, comforters, and baby clothes for Orphans International. She was involved with the MAMA project by sending clothes to third world countries.
Mildred was an avid reader and loved reading to her husband. She also loved to research new information on vitamins and health. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, canning and freezing, and most of all baking.
Mildred was very hospitable and feeding people was her love language. She loved being a helpmate and working alongside her loving husband.
In addition to her husband, Mildred is survived by her five daughters, Judy Mae Landis & husband, Larry of Alburtis, PA, June Kay Jones & husband, Marvin of Schwenksville, PA, Janet Fay Gracely & husband, Harvey of Kutztown, PA, Cindy Jean Knechel of Souderton, PA, Sandy Joan Niermans & husband, John of Souderton, PA; her 10 grandchildren – Leon Landis & wife, Jennifer of Alberta, Canada, Joanne Seibert & husband, Tim of Coronado, Panama, Greg Jones & wife, Sarah of Collegeville, PA, Gail Klinesmith & husband, Ted of Winston-Salem, NC, Brian Jones & wife, Lisa of Schwenksville, PA, Jonathan Gracely & wife, Kristen "Chrissy" of Lenhartsville, PA, Rodney Jones & companion, Jessica Sellers of Boyertown, PA, Kevin Jones & wife, Kristin of Schwenksville, PA, Aaron Niermans & wife, Kayla of Lower Gwynedd, PA, Curtis Niermans & wife, Jordyn of Telford, PA; a step-grandson, Allen Gracely of Leesport, PA; her 22 great-grandchildren; her two step-great-grandchildren; her three brothers, Willard Moyer of Toronto, Canada, Earl Moyer & wife, Kathy of Pine Grove, PA, Wayne Moyer of Quakertown, PA; and her foster son, Edwin "Butch" Wiseman & wife, Edna Marie of Tylersport, PA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Kathrine Knechel; her sisters-in-law, Beverly Moyer & Kay Moyer; her brother-in-law, Marvin Knechel; and her foster daughter, Thelma Kahl.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Perkiomenville Mennonite Church, 1836 Gravel Pike, Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania 18074 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am.
Burial will take place at Huff Union Church Cemetery in Alburtis, PA.
