Nawal Nagib Assad , 88, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Holy Redeemer Hospital in Huntingdon Valley.
She was the beloved wife of the late Rizk Assad, with whom she shared 47 years of marriage. Born in Cairo, Egypt, Nawal was the cherished daughter of the late Nagib Assad and the late Naamet Ibrahim Assad.
Nawal graduated from high school and went on to earn her degree from the College of Art in Egypt, where she developed her lifelong love of religious art and Coptic iconography.
A devoted member of St. Mary and St. Mercurius Coptic Orthodox Church of Greater Philadelphia in Conshohocken, Nawal lived her faith daily through her kindness, creativity, and care for others. She was a loving and selfless wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found her greatest joy in her family and especially in caring for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Hany Assad and his wife, Nevine, of Kemah, TX; her daughter, Hanan Youssef and her husband, Sherif, of Philadelphia, PA; her four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sister, Ninette Mechael of Pittsburgh, PA; and her brother, Nagy Mechael and his wife, Mona, of Long Beach, NJ.
Nawal was preceded in death by her parents, Nagib and Naamet Assad, and her husband, Rizk Assad.
A Wake Service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary & St. Mercurius Coptic Orthodox Church, 209 W. 5th Avenue, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
A Holy Liturgy Service will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary & St. Mercurius Coptic Orthodox Church, 209 W. 5th Avenue, Conshohocken, PA 19428. A Funeral Service will follow from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the church.
Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken.
