Nevin H. Kratz , 89, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Port Deposit, MD passed away on Saturday, January 2 ^nd , 2021 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

Nevin was born in Elroy, PA to the late Raymond L. Kratz and the late Alice (Halteman) Kratz. He attended grade school through grade 8.

Nevin then entered the world of work by living with an uncle and their family and was introduced to farming. He pressured his father to purchase a farm which he finally did in 1951. They were not a good working team. Therefore, Nevin and his family took a position with the Ardrossan Farms in Villanova, PA. Being located in the greater Philadelphia area, Ardrossan Farms closed their operations and referred Nevin to Mt. Ararat Farms in Port Deposit, MD., where he worked as a herdsman until his retiring in 2007 at the age of 75. He then moved back to Telford with an apartment at Grundy Manor for 10 years. When his health failed in 2016, he moved to the Souderton Mennonite Homes where he lived until his passing.

Nevin was drafted for military service in 1954. As a member of the Mennonite faith community, he chose the alternative service option. He and his wife moved to the Chambersburg, PA area where he served as a milk tester for 2 years. They then returned to the family farm in 1956.

Nevin is survived by his two sons, Gary Lynn Kratz and companion, Betty Lunden of Wayne, PA and Steven Ray Kratz and wife, Terri of Devon, PA; his two granddaughters, Suzanne Kratz and husband, Kelly and Jennifer Kratz and companion, Brandon; his grandson, Matthew Kratz; his great-grandson, Declan Hoy; his two brothers, Vernon Kratz of Souderton, PA and Arlan Kratz and wife, Alda of Harleysville, PA; his sister, Mary H. Kratz and husband, Millard Showalter of Harrisonburg, VA; and his sister-in-law, Monique (Moyer) Kratz of Telford, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Kratz and his grandson, Jason Kratz.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Inurnment will take place at the Franconia Mennonite Cemetery.
