Patricia Ann
Wheeler
Jan 21, 1931 — Jul 5, 2023
Patricia Ann Wheeler (nee Courtney), 92, of Telford, PA; formerly of Jeffersonville and Broad Axe, PA passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.
She was the loving wife of the late Steven William Wheeler for 60 years. Patricia was born in Philadelphia and was the only child of the late Joseph P. Courtney and the late Virginia M. Courtney (nee Schwakoff). She grew up in a tight knit community in South Philadelphia and spent all her summers with her grandparents in Stone Harbor. Those were the happiest days of her childhood.
She graduated from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls' High School in Philadelphia, PA, class of 1949. Patricia was taller than most of her peers and often talked about her skills on the basketball court.
After high school she got her first job in accounting with Bell Telephone Company, which was where she met her husband Bill. The majority of her working years were spent as an accountant at UNISYS in Blue Bell, where she spent more than 25 years. After her retirement she continued to work in accounting at The Jefferson House in Norristown, PA.
As a young wife and mother she participated in the Gourmet Group and the Welcome Wagon in her neighborhood, which was the source of many lifelong friendships and started a love of cooking and entertaining.
Patricia enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, lighthouses, traveling, swimming, reading and playing cards. But she was always happiest when she was in the ocean at Stone Harbor, and it remained her favorite place on Earth until the end.
Patricia was a progressive and independent woman for her time. She had a good sense of humor and was a kind and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her two daughters, Leslie Ann Wheeler-Bassett & husband, Patchen of Telford, PA, Stephanie D. Chenal-Wheeler & husband, Frederic of St. Agnan, France; two grandchildren, Nathan W. Stiles of PA and Audrey Claire Bassett of Telford, PA; and two great-grandchildren, Melanie Beau Stiles of Souderton, PA and Cole Patchen Stiles of Lansdale, PA.
A memorial service will be held August 12th at 11:30 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, 295 S. Main St. Telford, PA 18969.
Arrangements by: Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 East Broad Street, Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964. To send online condolences to the family, visit www.andersfh.com
