Pearl Patricia Schrack , ninety-six-year-old beloved teacher and friend, was born on December 27, 1926, in Bristol, PA to Fanny Russell and William Schrack, and died on September 13, 2023, in Lansdale PA at the Dock Woods Community.

Following early years in Norristown PA, where she attended the Norristown Gospel Mission (aka as First Mennonite and presently New Life), Pearl came to live with the Harold and Iona S. Weaver family in Collegeville at age 20. From city streets to her rigorous teaching classrooms, she integrated the grist and beauty of the world surrounding her.

Pearl attended Norristown High School and Eastern Mennonite School (VA) before earning her GED. She graduated from Eastern Mennonite College ('54) and University of Pennsylvania with a Masters in English. Pearl created a life rich with literary classics and international friendships.

She taught high school English and literature at Christopher Dock Mennonite High School ('54-'63) and at North Penn High School ('64-'92) where she eventually became a supervising instructor of K-12, initiating innovative programming and curricula.

In the wider community, Pearl taught the young adults' class at her church home, Souderton Mennonite. She served on the national Mennonite Board of Education from 1981-1985. Post-retirement, she sorted and priced books at Care and Share in Souderton until 2020.

In 1987, Pearl purchased Summer Cove, a shoreline cottage near Winter Harbor ME where she hosted countless summer visitors, Family and friends relished visits "Down East" where she feted them with concerts, lectures, hikes in Acadia National Park, feasts at lobster pounds, and her culinary specialty—popovers!

Pearl was pre-deceased by her parents, her 70-year companion/colleague Janet Martin (2023), as well as Weaver family members: Harold (2006), Iona (2010), Harold Lee (2012), and Donald (2014). She is survived by seven Weaver siblings: Richard (Barbara Reifsnyder), Mary Lou (Rod Houser), James (Lori Worden), Marjorie Nafziger, Sylvia, Lucille (Steven Martin), and Stephen (Ann Newswanger). Numerous nieces and nephews mourn their loss of Aunt Pearl as do their children who continue to frequent Summer Cove.

You are invited to a 1:00 visitation followed by a 2:00 p.m. memorial service on October 9, 2023, in the chapel of Dock Woods Community in Lansdale PA, with Naomi Kolb DuBlanica officiating. Pearl's body has been donated to the Human Gifts Registry for medical research; her ashes will be dispersed later at Summer Cove.
