Prof. Dr. Alfred Adly Tawfik Abadir, 78, of Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, formerly of Breinigsville, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest.

He was the beloved husband of Saheer Milad, with whom he shared 50 years of devoted marriage. Born in Egypt, Alfred was the cherished son of the late Adly Abadir and the late Afifa Barsoum.

Alfred copleted his early education in Egypt before pursuing higher education at Cairo University's Faculty of Agriculture, where he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Agriculture as a member of the Class of 1966. He later continued his academic journey at Humboldt University of Berlin, earning his Ph.D. in Horticulture in 1980.

For more than 60 years, Prof. Dr. Abadir faithfully served as a Professor of Horticulture at the Faculty of Agriculture at Zagazig University in Zagazig, Egypt. Through his dedication to teaching, mentorship, and research, he impacted the lives of thousands of students and colleagues throughout his distinguished career.

Alfred was deeply involved in both his professional and community life. He served as Past President of the Zagazig Rotary Club in Zagazig, Egypt, and was a member of the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) in Belgium as well as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Germany. He also volunteered his time at the YMCA in Zagazig, Egypt.

A faithful member of St. Mary & St. Bishoy Coptic Orthodox Church in Allentown, Alfred lived a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.

He found great joy in propagating plants, tending greenhouses and gardens, interior plant design, traveling, and spending treasured time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing Backgammon and listening to music, especially the timeless songs of Om Kalthoum.

Known for his hardworking spirit and unwavering dedication to his family, Alfred was the beloved patriarch of the Tawfik family. He guided and encouraged his family in building a life in the United States in pursuit of greater opportunities. Above all, he was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, respected professor, and mentor whose legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. He always sought to make the world around him greener, more beautiful, and full of life.

In addition to his wife, Alfred is survived by his loving children: daughter, Jacklin Youssef & husband, Ehab of Monroe, NJ; sons, Dr. John Tawfik & wife, Sheila of Schnecksville, PA, and Joseph Tawfik & wife, Catherine of Centreville, VA. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren: Rachel, Danielle, and Jeremy Youssef; Jacob, Luke, and Andrew Tawfik; and Natalia and Sophia Tawfik.

He is also survived by his four sisters: Leonie Adly & husband, Nabil Sourial of Faquas, Egypt; Violet Adly & husband, Boushra Fahiem of Ismailia, Egypt; Elaine Adly of Faquas, Egypt; and Iris Adly & husband, Nabil Isaac of Salhya, Egypt.

The Divine Liturgy will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary & St. Bishoy Coptic Orthodox Church, 5042 Schantz Road, Allentown, Pennsylvania 18104, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m.

Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Allentown.
