Rachel (Moyer) Myers , 102, of Souderton formerly of Hilltown, PA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.
She was the loving wife of the late Jesse F. Myers for 52 years. Rachel was born in Hilltown Twp., PA to the late Norman M. Moyer and the late Ida (Detweiler) Moyer.
After graduating from high school, Rachel attended Goshen College for two years in the late 1930's. She furthered her education by taking courses from Penn State University, Elizabethtown College and Temple University. Throughout her working lifetime, Rachel was an Elementary School Teacher for the Pennridge School District for 30 years in addition to teaching 2 years in the Central Bucks School District, Doylestown, PA. Rachel held memberships with the Pennsylvania State Education Association and Pennsylvania Public School Employees' Retirement System.
She was a member of Souderton Mennonite Homes Fellowship, and a former member of Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, Blooming Glen, PA. She faithfully volunteered at Souderton Care & Share Thrift Shoppes for 40+ years.
Rachel and her husband, Jesse, were an integral part of establishing the Faith Mennonite Church in Oxford, NJ where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School from 1956-1964. Rachel and Jesse also helped start Alpha Mennonite Church in Alpha, NJ where she was the church organist from 1975-1990.
Rachel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and cooking them delicious meals. She was a compassionate, grateful, and kind soul with many friends throughout the community. In her senior years, she loved going to Europe, Israel, as well as many places in the US. She had an adventurous spirit, including white water rafting, riding high in the sky in gliders, and snorkeling in the Caribbean. She enjoyed bowling, reading, and doing word-search puzzles for many years.
Rachel is survived by her two sons, Terry Jay Myers of Trinity, TX and Barry W. Myers and his wife Rosalie Adduci of Grass Valley, CA; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and seven great great-grandchildren, and her sister, Miriam Birky of Goshen, IN.
In addition to her husband Jesse, she was preceded in death by her brother, Justus Moyer; and
her three sisters, Betty Hershey, Esther Wenger and Ruth Koppenhaver.
Burial will be at the Blooming Glen Mennonite Cemetery.
