Richard A. Whitley, 82 , of Hermitage, PA; formerly of Perkasie, PA passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at his residence.
He was the loving husband of the late Karen L. (Klekner) Whitley for 50 years. Richard was born in Tarboro, North Carolina to the late Robert E. Whitley and the late Ruth Williams Whitley.
He graduated from Pennsbury High School. Richard graduated Kutztown University, as well as Rider University where he received his masters degree in English. He was employed as an Educator and English Coordinator for Pennsbury School District before retiring in 2000.
Richard was a member of MENSA, the Pennsbury Teachers Association and the Gifted Children's Guild. He mentored at the Odyssey of the Mind and volunteered with both the Eagle Scouts and the Boy Scouts of America, and was a youth group mentor at his local Lutheran church.
During his life, Richard always enjoyed golfing, writing and reading poetry, computer programming, building and flying model RC helicopters, dog training, and carpentry. He could often be found completing word games and puzzles as well.
What brought Richard the most joy in life was his family. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather with a fantastic sense of humor. He was a great mentor as well as a caring and loving educator that was always willing to offer advice. Richard was a generous, charming, ambitious, classy gentleman and scholar.
He is survived by his son, Michael A. Whitley of Mobile, AL; his four daughters, Wendy L. Whitley of Lansdale, PA, Jessica L. Lubinski of Montgomeryville, PA, Rebecca A. Whitley of Morrisville, PA, Rachel E. Ranzie and husband, Steven, of Tobyhanna, PA; his five grandsons, Kyle Monzo of Ewing, NJ, Jericho Lincoln of Belton, SC, RJ Chegus of Montgomeryville, PA, Carmine Deluzio of Kresgeville, PA, Emmett Lubinski of Montgomeryville, PA; his four granddaughters, Mackenzie Carpenter and husband, Brian, of CO, Melanie Manion of Philadelphia, PA, Valerie Munoz of Wilmington, NC, Trinity Lincoln of Old Forge, PA; and his great-grandson, Austin Carpenter of CO.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 7:00 pm at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964.
