Robert M. Bishop , 91, of Hatfield, PA passed away on Saturday, December 19 ^th , 2020 at his residence.

He was the loving husband of the late Alva (Snedeker) Bishop for 52 years.  Bob was born in Lansdale, PA to the late Russell and Jennie (Andrews) Bishop.

A graduate of Lansdale High School class of 1948, Bob then joined the US Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant through 4 years of service in Alaska, the Aleutian Islands, Japan & Korea, from 1948-1952.  His duties included heavy equipment operation to create landing strips for fighter pilots in the Korean War.

After looking through his High School Class Yearbook, he found a picture of Alva Snedeker, called her and asked her on a date.  They were married during his last year of service in the War. They bought a house in the area where Bob has lived for 68 years.

Bob and Alva had 2 children:  Craig born in 1952 and Sherry born in 1957.

Bob worked at Hager's Clothing Store in Lansdale starting at age 12 to help support his large family.

After his service in the Army, he joined the family grocery store in Kulpsville before going into partnership with his brother at Bishop Brother's Saw Mill on Green Lane Road in Kulpsville.

Subsequently, he joined M&S Vending in Hatfield and upon retirement worked as a part-time delivery driver for Richter Drafting in Souderton.

Bob was a life-time member of Grace Mennonite Church where Bob's parents were charter members.

The family celebrated their weekly meals at Bob's home and until recently, 20 people were sitting around the table.  Another highlight was the annual family trip to the Jersey Shore expanding to include children, their partners, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Bob continued these yearly trips for 63 years through his 90 ^th birthday.

Bob's favorite activity was helping and serving other.  He visited many who were hospitalized and elderly and rarely missed a church work day.  His Saturdays were filled with lending a hand to those he knew needed it.  His skills, strength and cheerful "can do" attitude was in frequent demand.

Bob will be remembered for his sincere commitment to Christ, his devotion to his wife Alva and family, his serving heart as well as his passionate prayers at joint family gatherings.

Bob's survivors include:

His children:  Son, Craig, and his wife, Sally (Landis) of Harleysville.  Daughter, Sherry, and her husband, Durrell Godshall of Harleysville.  In addition, he had five grandchildren:  Matthew Bishop, Angela Schrader, Charity Baxter, Bradley Godshall and Alicia Nice and eight great-grandchildren:  Alexa Olivier, Devon Schrader, Arabella and Lila Bishop, Jude & Siena Baxter, Brooke and Ahna Nice.

In addition to his wife, Alva, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Slifer, Dorothy Detweiler, Jeanette MacFarland and three brothers, Willard, Russell and Kenneth Bishop.

A private graveside service will be held at Limerick Garden of Memories.
