Obituary

Robert Thomas Smola , 70, of Hilltown, PA; formerly of Hatfield, PA entered into rest on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Doylestown Hospital.

He was the loving husband of Verna Jean (Surderski) Smola for 50 years. Bob was born in Norristown, PA to the late Chester Smola and the late Stella (Wietecha) Smola.

He graduated from Lansdale Catholic High School, class of 1969. During high school, Bob also attended from North Montco Technical Career Center in Lansdale, PA, graduating with degree in cosmetology.

He began working as a hair stylist at the Plymouth Meeting Mall in Plymouth Meeting, PA. Bob then worked as a sprayer at the former American Olean Tile Company in Lansdale, PA. He lastly worked as a hair stylist at the former Ted Maxwell Hair Salon (later known as West End Beauty Salon) in Jenkintown, PA.

Bob formerly attended Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hilltown, PA.

He loved watching sports, especially the Phillies and the EAGLES. Bob enjoyed going to the casinos and walking on the boardwalk. He also enjoyed traveling to the see the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and Vegas. In his younger years, he played the drums and was even in a band. Bob was very interested in history and horses. He loved his horse, Shawny, and enjoyed taking him to competitions in which he won some ribbons. Bob also loved animals especially feeding the birds and taking his beloved dog, Ellie, for walks in the park. He also enjoyed playing BINGO, Pinochle, and cards.

Bob was a devoted husband and father who had a great sense of humor and was a bit of a prankster.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Derrick J. Smola of Telford, PA, Chris L. Smola of Perkasie, PA, Andrew T. Smola of Hilltown, PA; his sister, Margaret Grafton of Clayton, NJ; and his brother, Ronald Smola & wife, Susan of White Haven, PA.

At the request of Bob, there will be NO services.
