Roy M. Derstine , 78, of Souderton, PA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.
He was born in Blooming Glen, PA to the late Marvin G. Derstine and the late Pauline G. (Moyer) Derstine.
Roy graduated from Pennridge High School, class of 1962. He worked as hog truck cleaner for the former V&J Derstine Trucking Company in Hatfield. Roy later worked as a maintenance man for the former Woolco in Souderton. He also worked as a housekeeper for Rockhill Mennonite Community in Sellersville for more than 15 years.
He was a lifetime member of Blooming Glen Mennonite Church where he formerly served as an usher.
Roy volunteered at the Care & Share Thrift Shoppes and the Souderton Mennonite Homes.
He enjoyed traveling throughout North America with his parents in their RV. Roy loved collecting keys chains from the various places he had been. He also loved animals especially his horse, Charcoal and his dog, Skipper. Roy was a huge Phillies fan and enjoyed watching them on TV and going to their games. In his younger years, he also enjoyed going to Southern Gospel concerts.
Roy was a very social man who was always interested in talking with people, had a good sense of humor, and enjoyed telling a story. He had a special knack of remembering people's names and faces.
Roy is survived by his 5 siblings: Patricia A. Halteman of Newburg, PA, Paul M. Derstine & wife, Eleanor of Chevy Chase, MD, Dale M. Derstine of Pipersville, PA, Betty L. Kulp & husband, John of Telford, PA, Nancy R. Moyer of Souderton, PA; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers-in-law, Glenn Moyer & Melvin Halteman.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Burial will take place at Blooming Glen Mennonite Cemetery.
