Russell "Russ" L. Halteman , 91, of Souderton, PA went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.
Russell was born on July 16,1929 in Franconia, PA to the late Melvin C. Halteman and Laura (Landis) Halteman. He was the loving husband of Kathryn A. (Moyer) Halteman for 68 years.
He attended the one-room Morwood School, then finished eighth grade at the Franconia Consolidated School. Russell was a farmer and had a market route to Philadelphia selling chicken, eggs, and produce. Later he was employed as a line worker by the former MoPac of Elroy, PA. After retirement, he volunteered at the Care & Share Thrift Shoppes in Souderton.
Russell was a lifetime member of Franconia Mennonite Church.
Russ loved Jesus, life on the farm and weekly Sunday dinners with his family. He enjoyed playing Rook, listening to gospel music, and, like all true farmers, watching the weather.
In addition to his wife, Kathryn, Russell is survived by two daughters, Donna Derstine & husband, Henry of Harleysville, PA, Karen Halteman of Brooklyn, NY; daughter-in -law, Joanne Halteman of Lederach, PA; four grandchildren – Henner(Sokun), Jake(Mandy), Greg(Christi), & Galen(Julie); seven great-grandchildren – Jacob, Selena, Tim, Thalia, Elias, Adelyn, & Raelee; two sisters, Loretta Miller & husband, Omar of Franconia, PA, Margaret Allebach & husband, Gerald of Palmyra, PA; and sister-in-law, Mildred Halteman of Souderton, PA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary D. Halteman, his brother, Lester Halteman, and five sisters, Sara Kulp, Eva Godshall, Marion Halteman, Florence Weaver & Kathryn Detweiler.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Burial will take place at Franconia Mennonite Cemetery.
