Ruth A. (Alderfer) Hertzler , 95, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Blooming Glen, PA went to Heaven on the evening of Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

She was the loving wife of the late Aldus K. Hertzler for 63 years. Ruth was born in Blooming Glen, PA to the late Franklin L. Alderfer and the late Maria B. (Stover) Alderfer.

She graduated from Souderton Area High School, class of 1944. Ruth then graduated from Goshen College in Goshen, IN, class of 1948 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.

She taught 2 years at Red School in Sellersville and substituted 2 years in the Pennridge Public School District. Later, Ruth taught 6 years at Bedminster Elementary School in Bedminister, PA.

She was a lifetime member of Blooming Glen Mennonite Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, elder, children's music leader, soloist, and choir member.

Ruth was a former member of the Grand View Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Franconia Lancaster Choral Group. She was an active volunteer at the Souderton Mennonite Homes where she participated in the choir and bell choir. Ruth also volunteered at the Care & Share Thrift Shoppes in Souderton.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother where she found fulfillment and joy in spending time with all of her family members. Ruth took a special interest in their lives and found unique ways to connect with them. She continued what she and her husband started - praying for each family member that they would be protected and empowered in the fullness of God's love and grace through Jesus Christ.

Ruth loved music, singing, and playing the piano. She had the gift of hospitality and enjoyed gardening, canning, and freezing. Her family always said she was a great cook! Other interests included: sewing, knitting, writing letters, playing tennis, reading biographies and other books. Ruth was an avid Phillies fan! She enjoyed traveling and taking annual summer family trips to Ocean City, NJ.

Ruth was a Godly, faithful, sweet, harmonious, kind-hearted, courageous, gracious, loving, honest woman who had good sense of humor and had a ready smile on her face.

She is survived by her three daughters, Elizabeth L. Hollenbach & husband, Jeffrey of Perkasie, PA, Alice M. Shenk & husband, Philip of Goshen, IN, Emily J. Swartley & husband, Kenton of Cedar Falls, IA; her 14 grandchildren – Sarah, Samuel, David, Anna, Deborah, Nathan, Joanna, Rebekah, Andrew, Jonathan, Kristen, Jeremy, Jamie, & Michelle; her 19 great-grandchildren – Caleb, Noah, Micah, Janie, Quinn, Sloane, Peyton, Luke, Emma, Rachel, Jonathan, Nicholas, Jamie, Hannah, Delaney, Soren, Henry, Emanuel, & Xavier; and her two sisters, Esther Moyer of Souderton, PA & Jane Diseroad of Souderton, PA.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her two infant sons, John Paul Hertzler & Glen Franklin Hertzler; her granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Swartley; her brother, Edwin Alderfer; her sister-in-law, Helen Alderfer; and her two brothers-in-law, Paul Moyer & Eugene Diseroad.

A viewing will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, 713 Blooming Glen Road, Blooming Glen, Pennsylvania 18911 from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 pm.

A private burial will take place at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church Cemetery.
