Obituary

Shawkey K. Heness , 86, of Drexel Hill, PA formerly of Cairo, Egypt, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 31, 2021, at Delaware County Memorial Hospital.

Shawkey was born in 1935 in Cairo, Egypt to the late Kiroloss Heness Fanous and the late Mary Ghobrial.

A graduate of Ain Shams University, Cairo, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. He continued his graduate studies in Civil Engineering at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.

Shawkey served in the Egyptian Military Army Core of Engineers for 20+ years and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After coming to the USA for education, he worked as a Civil Engineer for various engineering organizations worldwide.

He was an active member of St. George Coptic Orthodox Church of Greater Philadelphia.

He was an avid reader who enjoyed traveling, spending time walking through Philadelphia, sitting in coffee shops having conversation, and being with family. He was a devoted brother, uncle, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Violet F. Heness; his sons, Victor S. Heness and wife Sheryl of Avondale, PA, and Philip S. Heness and wife Jennifer of Springfield, PA; his six grandchildren, Victor Jr, Isabella, Jaxon, Shane, Asher, and Aleksander Dyjas. His two sisters, Amal Awadalla of Philadelphia, PA, and Nabila Mitry and husband Wagieh of Virginia; two brothers, Magdy Heness and wife Samia of Egypt and Nabil Heness and wife Neveen of Folsom, PA. Uncle to Hany Awadalla; Shirif and Mark Mitry; Ramy and Nancy Heness; Hany, Alice and Christen Heness; Gina and Matthew Guirguis; Michael John, Peter and James Yousef. Brother-in-law of Maggie Yousef and Husband Wasfy, and George Guirguis and wife Manal.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at St. George Coptic Orthodox Church of Greater Philadelphia, 411 Dekalb Street, Norristown, PA 19401 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. A funeral mass will then follow at 11 am. A Graveside Service will be held immediately after at 12:45 pm at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 S. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA. 19064.
