Shirley Ann (Landis) Michalak , 74, of Telford, formerly of Harleysville, PA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 25, 2022, at Lutheran Community at Telford.

She was the loving wife of the late Michael S. Michalak for 48 years. Shirley was born in Sellersville, PA to the late Norman M. Landis and the late Irene (Swartley) Landis.

She graduated from North Penn High School in 1966 and later attended and graduated from Lansdale School of Cosmetology, where she was licensed by the state in 1984. That same year, she and her late husband, Mike, established "Michalak's Service Station" in Souderton, PA to serve the needs of the community. They owned that business together for 30 years before passing the business along to their son, Jarrod, in 2014. While assisting her late husband with the operation of the business, Shirley worked for three years as a hairdresser at "Just Hair" in Harleysville, PA and moved with the business when it merged with "American Beauty." She retired from that position in 2004.

She was a dedicated member of Immanuel Leidy's Church of Souderton, PA her entire life—following generations of her family members. An active volunteer in church ministries, she served as a Sunday School teacher, the coordinator of the church's nursery, a member of the Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group, and a longtime volunteer at the church's rummage sale, annual Strawberry Festival, and the Wednesday night Youth Club. Both she and her late husband were also part of one of the longest continuously run small groups in Leidy's Church history—something they treasured for the lifelong friendships they made.

Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was an avid reader of the Bible and Christian novels about love and when she wasn't reading love stories, you'd find her watching the Hallmark Channel—especially at Christmas.

Shirley loved to travel with family and friends. She fell in love with the Outer Banks of North Carolina so much so that she and her late husband purchased a vacation home there in 1997 where they made memories with family and friends.

Shirley loved to walk and tried to walk at least two miles every day. Her love of walking led her to chair and volunteer with the Crop Walk in Souderton for many years. She was passionate about supporting local and national charities. From Special Olympics to St. Jude, to the local crisis pregnancy center, her grandkids' school, and the local fire department, Shirley was a joyful giver. As family members struggled with health conditions, she would give to charities that supported hope for those causes like Smile Train and the Michael J. Fox Foundation. She also was called upon by the Red Cross to donate blood often—something that earned her drawerfuls of pins and a lifetime of heartfelt gratitude.

Always up for a shopping trip, Shirley loved to find a bargain. Her favorite stores were Kohl's or Boscovs where she loved to dig through the clearance racks for "a new top" or items for her grandkids.

One thing her kids will always remember about their mother was her love of sweets. Shirley loved muffins with sugar crystals on top, donuts, cinnamon buns, and practically anything that fell under the Mrs. Benner label at Landis Supermarket.

Shirley lived every day in accordance with the following phrase—which was handwritten several places throughout her Bible: "Love is choosing to do what is best for someone regardless of the consequences to yourself." It's how she modeled her life, putting others before herself.

She is survived by her two sons, M. Shane Michalak and partner Ann Furbacher of Pennsburg, PA, and Jarrod S. Michalak and wife Rebecca of Harleysville, PA; and her daughter, Laura B.  Schmidt & husband Matthew of Marysville, PA; her ten grandchildren, Susanna, Leah, Jordan, Jacob, Seth, Austin, Braeden, Logan, Peyton, and Ethan; her two sisters, Dolores McArthur of Spinnerstown, PA, and Beverly Wendt & husband William of Mesa, AZ; her two brothers, Sheridan F. Landis of St. Augustine, FL, and Gregory Landis & wife Cindy of East Greenville, PA.

In addition to her husband Michael, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert R. Landis and her sister, Eleanor Lewis.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 East Broad Street, Souderton, PA from 6-8 p.m.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Leidy's Church, 273 W. Cherry Lane, Souderton, PA where friends may meet with the family from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

A private inurnment will take place at Immanuel Leidy's Church Cemetery.
