Obituary

Sonia Maria Maldonado , of Bryn Mawr, PA; formerly of Malvern, PA & Jersey City, NJ went home to be with Jesus on Monday, June 17, 2024 at Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Sonia was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Nilda Sola-Rivera of Boca Raton, FL and the late Geraldo Maldonado.

Sonia graduated from Westfield High School in Westfield, NJ, class of 1971. She then obtained her undergrad from New York University. She then graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business and London School of Economics with two master's degrees, one in accounting and one in business.

From 196-1990, Sonia worked as an accountant for Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in Jersey City, NJ. From 1990-2016, she was employed as a Certified Public Accountant for American Express in New York, NY where she was the head manager of the tax department. She was very well accomplished, a true multi-tasker, and she always got things done. Sonia also volunteered at her church by helping people that were seeking asylum. She helped them put together their paperwork, as well as gave them free legal advice.

Sonia was member of Phi Chi Theta in New York, NY. She was the founder of the Newport Waterfront Association in Jersey City, NJ in 2001. She was a member of St Mary & St Mercurius Coptic Orthodox Church in Conshohocken, PA.

She loved puppies, especially her Chihuahua, Harper. She also loved reading, writing, cooking, animals, and children. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, dining out, going to the shore, museums, restaurants, and Atlantic City. One of her favorite places to visit was the Jersey shore where she enjoyed relaxing by the beach. When she was the age of 16, she hitchhiked with her cousin all the way to Woodstock in New York.

Sonia was a strong-willed, caring, nurturing woman who loved life to the fullest and always stood up against injustice.

She is survived by her daughter, Tara E. Stok of Malvern, PA; her son, Daniel Stok & wife, Risha of Virginia Beach, VA; her three granddaughters, Soraya Attallah of Philadelphia, PA, Carla Attallah of Philadelphia, PA, Joyti Stok of Virginia Beach, VA; her grandson, Krishna Stok of Virginia Beach, VA; her three brothers, Jan Koenig & husband, Katherine of Long Island, NY, Alan Koenig, Jr. & wife, Arlita of New Port Richey, FL, Christopher Koenig & wife, Blaire of Tampa, FL; and her two sisters, Alexa Maldonado of Atlanta, GA, Melissa Maldonado & husband, Paul of Miami, FL; and her friend, Christina Valentine of Schwenksville, PA.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Mary and St. Mercurius Coptic Orthodox Church of Greater Philadelphia, 209 West 5th Avenue, Conshohocken, PA 19428.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery of West Conshohocken.
