Susan Elizabeth (Loucks) Freeman , 68, of Souderton, PA walked into triumphant victory on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

She was born in Lewistown, PA to the late Gordon Luther Loucks and the late Hannah Elizabeth (Lukens) Loucks.

Susan graduated from Chief Logan High School in Lewistown, class of 1970. She then graduated from Mansfield University in Mansfield, PA with a bachelor's degree in Education. Susan graduated college a semester early, and a month later walked into her first classroom as a teacher.

Susan was a teacher for Bradford Area School District in Bradford, PA, Berks County Intermediate Unit in Reading, PA, and lastly for North Penn School District in Lansdale, PA.

Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age 39, she did not let physical limitations stop her from teaching. She advocated for better working conditions for those with physical disabilities, and continued to teach for as long as she could. Susan's resilience in life is a testimony to God's goodness and provision.

She was a dedicated member of Souderton Mennonite Church, and regularly participated in women's Bible study.

Coming from a family who loved music, Susan enjoyed playing the saxophone in her high school band. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and macramé. Susan found joy in her flower gardens and the butterflies that were attracted to her butterfly bush. When she moved to Souderton Mennonite Homes, her favorite activity was petting the therapy dogs that would visit.

Susan was a witty, selfless, patient woman who had a good sense of humor and was always thinking of others. Her resilience, bravery, and love made lasting impressions on family, friends, and caregivers.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth String & husband, David of Willow Grove, PA; her sister, Alice Marsh & husband, William of Greencastle, PA; and her brother, Daniel Loucks & wife, Tracy of Lewistown, PA.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on October 3, 2020 at Souderton Mennonite Church, 105 W. Chestnut St., Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964 from 11:00 am- 12pm. The family will be available after the service to greet attendees. All attendees will be required to wear face masks and practice social distancing to follow COVID-19 precautions.

Inurnment will take place at Souderton Mennonite Church Memorial Garden for immediate family only.
