Theodore G. Hughes , 88, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Lancaster, PA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

He was the loving husband of the late Lina S. (Yoder) Hughes for 54 years. Ted was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Henry James Hughes and the late Vertelle (Ward) Hughes.

He attended Solanco High School in Quarryville, PA. Ted then attended Montgomery County Community College for 1 year.

He served in I-W at a mental hospital in Cleveland, OH and at a home for delinquent boys in New York. For more than 30 years, Ted was employed as a department manager for the former Provident Bookstore starting in Lancaster and later in Souderton. He then worked as a maintenance man for former Hatfield Quality Meats in Hatfield, PA. After retiring, Ted drove a school bus for Transportation Services in Franconia.

He was a member of Souderton Mennonite Church where he served as a former Sunday school teacher, song leader, soloist, and on the church board.

Ted served with Damascus Road for the Franconia Conference in Souderton. He and his wife served on the Souderton Ambulance Association. Ted was an Emergency Medical Technician with the Souderton Ambulance Corps for many years. He sang in the Franconia-Lancaster Choral Singers for over thirty years. Ted served on the board of New Life Boys Ranch in Salford, PA. He volunteered at the Material Resource Center in Franconia and at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

Ted enjoyed listening to classical music and singing. He had accumulated a wide collection of hymn books and classical music. Ted led hymn sings in a variety of places including Spruce Lake Retreat and churches in Lancaster area. He loved working on cars, watching the EAGLES, and spending time with his grandchildren. Ted enjoyed peanut M&M's and Jelly Beans. The family remembers the 4 basic food groups of Ted: Grease, Salt, Sugar, & Black Coffee.

Ted was a sharp minded, strong willed, mischievous, youthful, jovial, resilient, loyal man. He was easy to approach, intellectual, a good lesson teacher, a bit of a prankster. Ted had a tendency to be easy on others but hard on himself. He enjoyed a good theological conversation. Ted valued family over everything! Other things he valued were forgiveness, character, letting go of grievances, duct tape & WD40.

Ted is survived by his four children, Nancy D. Lenhardt & husband, Gregory of Woodburn, OR, Curtis G. Hughes & companion, Rosa Romero of Telford, PA, Mary E. Bauer & husband, Jeson of Quakertown, PA, B. David Hughes & wife, Sherri of Souderton, PA; his nine grandchildren – Brooke Jackson (Kevin), Joshua Lenhardt, Michaiah Hughes, Samuel Lenhardt (Bethany), Janessa Hughes, Rebekah Hughes, Caleb Lenhardt, Rylee Bauer, & Amelya Bauer; his great-grandson, Maxwell Jackson; and his two sisters-in-law, Annabelle Hughes of Cleveland Heights, OH & Toshiko Hughes of Fairfield, CA.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Estelle "Jimi" Hayes and his three brothers, Frederick "Sonny" Hughes, Gerald Leon Hughes, & Donald Hughes.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Souderton Mennonite Church, 105 W. Chestnut St., Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3:30 pm. The service will be Livestreamed. The family would like guests to come dressed casually and if you have any EAGLES paraphernalia feel free to wear it.

Inurnment will take place at Souderton Mennonite Church Memorial Garden.
