Warren Sidney "Sid" Hunsberger , 84, of Souderton, PA passed away peacefully in hospice on November 30, 2021 at Dock Woods Community, Lansdale, PA.
Sid was born on April 1, 1937 in Quakertown, PA. He graduated from Souderton High School in 1955 and East Stroudsburg College in 1959 he was married to the love of his life Beverly James Hunsberger for 47 years.
Sid was a Physical Education Teacher for Central Bucks School District, Warrington, PA for 39 years and a Football Coach for Central Bucks West High School for 29 years.
He was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Souderton.
Some of Sid's achievements include:
In 1954 as a member of the Souderton High School's 4 X 4 Relay Team he won a gold medal at the prestigious Penn Relays.
As an elementary physical education teacher at Barclay Elementary School in Warrington, Sid's 4 th , 5 th and 6 th grade students were number one in the state of PA for the Presidential Physical Fitness Award in 1977. They were also recognized as 2 nd in the nation.
In 1978, Doylestown Jaycees recognized him as Outstanding Young Educator.
In 2002, Sid was inducted into Who's Who 7 th edition of Educators.
In 2001, he was inducted into the North Penn-Souderton Sports Hall of Fame as an outstanding athlete of Souderton High School. Sid played football, basketball and ran track.
In 2008 he was inducted into Central Bucks West Hall of Fame as head track coach and assistant football coach for 29 years.
Sid belonged to the PA State Teachers Association, the National Education Association, PSAHPERD – Physical Education Association.
Served as Chairman of the 1955 Class of Souderton High School Reunion Committee.
Served as treasurer of North Penn-Souderton Hall of Fame
Committee Member of the Big 33 Football All-Star Game
Member of the East Stroudsburg University President's Club
Sid supported many charities: Special Olympics, Penn State Thon, East Stroudsburg Athletics, Central Bucks West Hall of Fame Scholarship Program, Keystone Opportunity Center, Souderton's Sundaes in the Park, Perseverance Fire Company and the American Red Cross.
We will miss his ability to make us all laugh, his boundless generosity, his never-ending energy and of course, his tremendous memory. He never met a stranger. He could and would talk with anyone and everyone – making all feel special. As an elementary physical education teacher and Coach he touched so many lives.
He loved Debi, Scott, Ryann, Grae, Nancy, John, Patrick, Bailey (our angel) and me!
Sid was my soul mate and he is in our hearts forever.
Sid is preceded in death by his beloved Parents Warren S. "Moxie" Hunsberger and Emily Kulp Hunsberger; his Son, C. Scott Hunsberger; his Sister Sandy Vogel and his Granddaughter Erin "Bailey" Worthen. He is survived by his loving Wife Beverly; Daughter, Deborah Hunsberger Lewis and Husband, John Schwab of Dublin, OH; Granddaughter, Ryann Wilson and Husband Patrick of Grandview, OH, Grandson, Graeson Lewis of Dublin, OH; Brother, Rodney Hunsberger and Wife Verna of Souderton, Sister JoAnne Snyder and Husband George of Muncy, PA.; Daughter-in-law, Nancy Gay of Franklin, IN; and many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
Visitation will be held on May 14, 2022 at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home and Crematory (see address below) from 9:00 am – 11:00 am
A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of the charities listed above.
