William Lester

William Lester Detweiler , 99, of Weatherly, PA; formerly of Hilltown, PA entered into rest on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at his residence.
He was the loving husband of Julia (Smakula) Detweiler for 72 years. William was born in Bedminster, PA to the late Oscar Detweiler and the late Anna (Tiefenthaler) Detweiler.
He graduated from Sell-Perk High School, class of 1941.
William served as a gunner/gunner instructor for the United States Air Force during WWII. He was employed as a seamstress for the former Royal Pants Factory in Perkasie, PA for more than 30 years, until retiring in 1990.
William was a member of the Lansdale Lodge No 1323 Loyal Order of Moose. He was an active member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hilltown where he served in many areas including the kitchen, grounds keeper, maintenance man, funerals, delivering flowers to nursing homes/residences, etc.
William loved watching football while working on his braided rugs. He enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, hunting, vegetable and flower gardening, quilting, sewing, upholster furniture, and traveling/bus trips.
William was an easy going, patient man who was a true handyman and was always willing to help out.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Ethel Buzdigon of Bedminster, PA; his 22 nieces and nephews; his 48 great-nieces & great-nephews; his 27 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and a few great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his six brothers, six sisters, three nephews, a great-nephew, and a great-niece.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Peter's Union Cemetery, Hilltown Pike, Hilltown, PA.
Inurnment will take place at St. Peter's Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1530 Augsburg Drive, Hilltown, PA 18927.
