Obituary

Wilma Lee (Showalter) Anders  , 94, of Alburtis, Pennsylvania, formerly of Gordonville, Pennsylvania, Sarasota, Florida and Blountstown, Florida, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Wilma Lee was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Yoder, with whom she shared 12 years of marriage, and the late LeRoy S. Anders, with whom she shared six years. Born in Waynesboro, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Perry Showalter and the late Elizabeth (Heatwole) Showalter.

A 1949 graduate of Eastern Mennonite High School, Wilma Lee later earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Mennonite College. Following high school, she served for six years in the college's Records Office as Secretary to the Registrar before completing her degree and pursuing the vocation she dearly loved—teaching.

Throughout her career, Wilma Lee faithfully invested in the lives of countless children. She taught at Locust Grove Mennonite School in Smoketown, Pennsylvania; served as a missionary teacher in Jamaica from 1968 to 1977 under the Virginia Mennonite Mission Board; and later taught at Bethel Mennonite School in Blountstown, Florida. She was a devoted member of Blandon Mennonite Fellowship in Blandon, Pennsylvania.

Wilma Lee found joy in life's simple blessings. She enjoyed reading, watching birds, completing word search puzzles, knitting, and spending time playing board games with family and friends. She will be remembered as a sweet, kind, loving, generous, and grateful woman whose gentle spirit, contentment, and quiet faith were evident to all who knew her. She rarely complained and lived each day with grace and gratitude.

Wilma Lee married Edward J. Yoder on April 21, 1984. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1996. She is survived by five Yoder stepchildren: Alma Nissley & husband, Lonnie of Blountstown, Florida; Clara Smith of Blountstown, Florida; Emma Bontrager & husband, Jonas of Blountstown, Florida; Katie Zook & husband, Lloyd, of Mechanicsburg, Ohio; and John Mark Yoder & wife, Almeda (Kauffman), of Guys Mills, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by 24 Yoder step-grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.

On August 15, 2009, Wilma Lee married LeRoy S. Anders. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2016. She is survived by four Anders stepchildren: Lee Anders & wife, Diane (Hinnerschietz) of Alburtis, Pennsylvania; Clyde Anders & wife, Elaine (Gehman) of Alburtis, Pennsylvania; Anna Mae Greiss of Alburtis, Pennsylvania; and David Anders & wife, Sharon (Burkholder) of Alburtis, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by 17 Anders step-grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.

Wilma Lee is also survived by five sisters: Glennys Shank of Due West, South Carolina; Ruth Showalter of Cumberland, Virginia; Louise Longenecker of Cumberland, Virginia; Goldie Huber & husband, Lester of Atmore, Alabama; and Doris Ranck & husband, Edwin of Cumberland, Virginia; one brother: Millard Showalter & wife, Mary (Kratz), of Harrisonburg, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Bertha (Hartzler) Showalter of Stuarts Draft, Virginia and Meredith (Baker) Showalter, of Lyndhurst, Virginia; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great nephews.
